When Honda decided to produce a car for the American market, they were the world's leading motorcycle manufacturer. The N600 sedan, dubbed "The Honda Car," was sold through Honda's existing motorcycle dealership network.
The N600 was simply enjoyable, and it came with Honda dependability as standard. Smaller than a Mini Cooper from the 1960s, with an air-cooled, all-aluminum 36-hp 2-cylinder engine. Overhead valves, a roller bearing crank, and hemispherical combustion chambers made it a technological marvel. The N600 was designed by the same team that created the race-winning 3 liter, V12 Formula 1 engine.
The N600 is the vehicle that laid the groundwork for the Civic.
